PlanMark converts DWG files automatically. When that fails (unusual formats or brand-new AutoCAD versions), convert once to DXF and it opens natively:
Free options:
• ODA File Converter (opendesign.com) — free desktop tool, batch-converts DWG→DXF.
• Autodesk viewer / DWG TrueView — open the DWG, save as DXF.
• Ask the engineer for a DXF or PDF export — every CAD program can produce one.
Open: PDF plan sets, DXF CAD drawings, and 3D models (GLB/GLTF, OBJ, STL). DWG needs a free one-time convert to DXF (see the message when you try one). Markups auto-save on this device.
CAD: DXF opens natively; DWG converts automatically (built-in LibreDWG converter — do one conversion online first so it caches for offline use, ~3 MB). Drawings are auto-calibrated from their units — measure immediately, no Scale step. All markup and takeoff tools work on them.
Markup: pen, highlight, box, ellipse, revision cloud, arrow, text. Use Select to move or delete (⌫). Undo with ↩.
Takeoff: on PDFs use Scale first (draw along a known dimension, enter its length). Then Length, Area (tap points, then Finish) and Count (tap items). Set Subject (e.g. “2″ PVC”) so totals group. ☰ Takeoff shows the list; ⬇ CSV exports to Excel.
3D mode: open a 3D model — orbit/pan/zoom, then 📏 Measure: tap two points on the model for a distance (GLB models are typically in meters). Measurements appear in the Takeoff panel and CSV. Tip: for Revit/IFC models, export as GLB (Revit: Twinmotion/glTF exporters; free IFC→GLB converters online).
Field photos (as-builts): pick the 📷 tool and tap the plan where the condition is — your camera/photo picker opens and the picture pins to that spot. Move it with Select; double-tap it to view full size or delete. Photos ride along in the flattened PDF export and in saved Markups files.
GPS layout: 🌐 Georef ties the plan to real coordinates — tap two known points and enter (or stand on them and capture) their lat/lon. Then the 📍 GPS tool pins items like a pole base with a name and grade elevation; coordinates fill in automatically, or capture a live fix standing at the spot. 🧭 Live shows your position as a blue dot on the plan; select a pin to get distance & bearing to it. Export/import points as GeoJSON (Takeoff panel) to share with PlanRover or any GPS app.
Tabs & combining: open several files at once (multi-select in the picker, or drop several) — each gets a tab. ⧉ Combine merges open PDFs into one file. 🔒 locks the app; the passcode is per-device.
Compare (PDF): load a second revision — unchanged lines dark, old rev blue, new rev red.
Save: ⬇ PDF exports a flattened copy (works for DXF too — turns CAD into a marked-up PDF). 💾 Markups saves annotations as .json to keep in OneDrive/Drive and reload (📂) on any device.
